A story rich with innovation, experimentation, controversy and emotion, the park provides an ideal setting to share the cultural history of the people and places that helped shape the development and progression of jazz in New Orleans.

 Directions

To reach our Visitor Center
Travel on I-10, heading towards New Orleans. Exit at Orleans Avenue #235A and turn south towards the Vieux Carre (French Quarter). Orleans Avenue turns into Basin Street. Continue on Basin Street and turn left on Conti Street. Turn left on North Peters (last road before the river). Visitor Center is on riverside of street, past Cafe DuMonde, underneath the Bella Luna Restaurant.


 Climate
 

Summer: High humidity, temperatures average 85° ferenheit, but can reach 100°.
Fall: Mild from October to December. 70's to 80's.
Winter: Generally mild. Can reach low 30's and 40's during January and February.
Spring: Temperatures and humidity start rising again.

 Seasons
 

The park is open year-round. Several times a year the park participates in special events that bring enhanced opportunities to experience the city's jazz culture. April is Jazz Appreciation Month which includes French Quarter Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In August the park hosts the Children's Stage at Satchmo SummerFest. October is Jazz Awareness Month and the park boasts seasonal concerts for December's Christmas New Orleans Style.

Park Ranger Programs

Every week, park rangers present a variety of programs. So, whether you're in the mood to participate during a demonstration or sit back and learn from an exciting lecture, stop by and enjoy.

Live Music Performances

Every Saturday, the park hosts a variety of musicians to explore the origins, development and progression of New Orleans jazz. The park often has live music during the week too. Please check the schedule to see when your favorite jazz artist will be performing.

Guest Presentations

Ever wonder about jazz funerals, second-line parades and mardi gras indians? The park hosts local historians, musicians, and participants from New Orleans music heritage to explore these topics and more.
