The Evangeline Camp is centrally located on the Wild Azalea National Recreation Trail. Located on Forest Road 273, it enables hikers to split the 29 mile Wild Azalea Trail into shorter sections. There is a vault restroom, but there is no water.

Hiking and biking on the Wild Azalea National Recreation Trail is accessible from the Evangeline Camp. Connections to the Lemotte Creek Trail, Lakeshore Trail and Indian Ridge Trail are also possible from here..
Directions
From Alexandria, drive west on Louisiana Highway 28 for 8 miles to Forest Road 273. Turn left (south) on Messina Road (FR 273) and go 4 miles to the signed camping area and Wild Azalea Trailhead on the right.
