Caroline Dormon Trail

The Caroline Dormon Trail is 10.5 miles of horseback, hiking, or biking trail that is not a loop. The start of the trail is on FH 59 (Longleaf Scenic Byway) and the end is just short of the Kisatchie Bayou Recreation Complex. There is a connecting spur at Kisatchie Bayou but the best horse trailer parking and facilities is at the Caroline Dormon/Backbone Trailhead.

The Caroline Dormon Trail is designated for horse riders although hiking and biking is permitted. No motorized travel is allowed. The trail head for the Caroline Dormon Trail is on the Longleaf Scenic Byway, Forest Highway 59. Creek crossings, meadows, and scenic views are all available to visitors to the Dormon Trail.

 Some More Things to Know

Visitors to Caroline Dormon Trail can park at the Trailhead which is conveniently located just off the Longleaf Scenic Byway (FH 59). The Caroline Dormon Trail is used by horse riders, hikers, and bikers. The trail is not a loop trail.

Facilities: General day-use, vault toilets, information bulletin board at the trailhead.





 Directions to Trailhead

From the intersection of I-49 and Highway 6 (Natchitoches), drive west on Hwy 6 for 4 miles. Turn left (south) on Louisiana Hwy 117 and proceed 16 miles to Forest Highway 59, Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway. Turn left (east) on FH 59 and go to the signed location on the right (south).
